    I thought I would try a wound G string. Then I realized why it didn't sound as loud as the others. The core is smaller. So....they will all be switched soon.

    hey folks have been doing this since, banjo strings started going on guitars. After you find the sweet spot, you may want to heat up the pole again, then let it cool with out letting it move. This should 'glue' it tight, for you. I am wondering if I can get away with this with a Jazzmaster pick up. The D out put is way low. Thanks.

    I have used threaded inserts - like those from nectite. It improved tonality a lot, maybe cause of better contact between neck and body...

    Is there any way you can draw me a diagram of an HS setup so the bridge humbucker reads 500k and a neck single coil reads 250k using 1 volume pot & 1 tone pot and a 3 way toggle switch? I can't find a diagram nor have I found anybody willing to draw me a diagram. This is the closest video I've found to what I need. It's going into a customized epiphone Les Paul Junior I did. I would be most grateful if you can draw me a diagram so I can visually see it and learn. Cheers.

    Great trick i've been using on my Tele's and Strat for some time now. I remove the pickguard before resetting the neck. Even had to take something off the pickguard near the control plate to make it fit again which shows how much space there is when it leaves the factory. Also acoustically the guitar really sings to you after doing this.

    I got a Jaguar SS shortly after it was discontinued for $320 (originally $199). It is my favorite bass of all time. I sold my others (including a high-end Fender P-Bass) and use only this one now. I wish I had had it long ago. I did replace the pickups, but it didn't really need them. I just wanted a little more power in the bridge pickup.

  • @kijekuyo9494

    I adore my Jaguar SS and use it as my only bass guitar. It does everything I want beautifully. This is coming from a guy that had a top-of-the-line P-Bass. I think 30" should become the standard.

    I just bought a strat (a squier contemporary with that middle position close to the bridge) and it's got a 12" radius....with staggered pole pieces. Yeah, I dont think they thought it entirely through when they developed the pickups for this series. Dont get me wrong, they sound great, but it's noticeably uneven in output. EADand G will all be fat n juicy, but B and e will sound all wimpy. It sucks because I really like these pickups, but I'm forced to swap em out because of that damn stagger.

    So, if I have a treble bleed circuit in addition to this, should this pickup be isolated from it? Will the extra resistor in the treble bleed circuit negatively impact my sound?

  • @clkrthomas
    @clkrthomas Місяць тому

    They break so often because the wood used is too low of a density and strength causing it to easily break if dropped. Mahogony is most often used on guitar necks, and it has a 10,600 psi in strength, one of the lowest strength woods used in guitar necks. These woods are of higher strength, Maple - 13,400 psi, Walnut - 14,600 psi, Oak - 15,200 psi, and Hickory - 20,200 psi. So, why Mahogony is used so often when Hickory is twice its strength is what I would like to know. Hickory is the wood that should be used in my opinion.

    Why are you saying 12/64 for the height of the pickup ? 12/64 is the same as 3/16

  • @ariamartinez7355
    @ariamartinez7355 Місяць тому

    What I personally don’t like about direct mount pickups even when using the brass brackets is, the whole idea is that the pickups are mounted directly to the body therefore creating more resonance. But what end up happening after make your height adjustment is you pickups are no longer in contact with the body only the screws & foam or screw & the Allen adjust screw so what the point??

    Thanks a million, your explanation is to something that I stumbled across back in the mid 80's. After retro fitting staggered pickups to a MiJ Strat I got the natural urge to push the poles into a flatter profile. I've been doing it ever since because I always thought they sounded better, however, I learned a long time ago that I also have a strong preference towards 12"R oil and wax finished necks and now I know why I like to push the staggered Alnico poles flat.

    I removed the bridge, then wedged some candle wax scrapings into it and waved my heat gun past it. You could use a hair dryer. The wax melts into the bridge and can't be seen, and it completely removes the string buzz.

    I dont see the saddle as a radius, its a flat slot, but force onto it is increased or moved to the tail via break angle. So longer string tension vs shorter. If string buzz at saddle is a problem then why not round to crown?

    Great video, going to try to do this mod on my new player Mustang. :) Quick question: which dimarzio pickups did you go for? I see you replaced the stock pups with dimarzios, I'm thinking of doing that too.
